This selection gathers twenty-four of the lesser-known tales collected by the Grimm Brothers. They are not the wondrous stories about princesses but the ones about peasants and animals. Translated respectfully from the German original and illustrated with the same charm and humor as these folk tales.

The Brothers Grimm did not really invent anything. They simply put on paper the stories other people told them, such as Dorothea Viehmann, an old peasant from the village of Zweheren. The famous tales of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘Thumbling’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’, etc. were passed on from parents to children across rivers, hills, and years. This selection, which includes twenty-four of the lesser known stories collected by the Grimm brothers, hopes to prolong the life of these tales thanks to their new found readers.

Pedro Gálvez’s translation respects the direct and unpolished -but always charming- style of the original stories, with no cuts or additions.

The illustrator Oliveiro Dumas, with the enthusiasm of a new reader, has taken charge of the staging. In virtue of his work, these old folk tales of peasants and animals seem to have occurred this very morning, and will frighten and delight young and adult readers alike.
