BuenosAires

Someone once said (actually several people said it and it doesn't matter who said it before) that the city is a book which must be read with the feet. Concerning Buenos Aires, this is completely true: to know a city, it is necessary to walk everywhere around it and read it from cover to cover. We must listen to all its voices; also those which speak to us through the images and the printed texts.

The Buenos Aires book has grown for over ten years in the travel and walking notebooks of Diego Bianki. While its author insisted on getting lost in the city due to excessively looking at the clouds or not taking his eyes off the ground, little by little he gathered these papers (the «bookmarks of the city», according to the "greguería" [witty aphorism]) which the wind blew at whim through the spacious halls of an endless library. In an instant, if any of them attracted his attention, he would run after it and stick it in his pocket.

Thus, Bianki has used hundreds of papers salvaged from the rubbish to illustrate each of the twenty-seven letters which compose this alphabet: there are fruit labels, candy wrappers, matchboxes, packing cardboard, business brochures, table cloths and all types of printed material. Cows, rabbits and penguins make their way to greet the happy hikers who swiftly walk through a gallery of brief texts.
