Books for Tomorrow

The books: How Could a Democracy Be Like, So This is a Dictatorship, There are Social Classes and Women and Men comprise a series of four titles designed for the youngest readers which were published between 1977 and 1978 by the Barcelona Publisher, La Gaya Ciencia. At that time, it had only been a couple of years since the death of the Dictator Franco and the country experienced a stage —the Transition— which would bring the first democratic changes.

Almost forty years have passed and we think that the spirit and the majority of the letter of these books are completely current; hence we have decided to publish them again with new illustrations. In the texts, we have only touched up a comma or two (so we cannot say that not even a comma was touched), but nothing has been added or subtracted from its contents. In essence, the ideas and comments are perfectly valid, the same as the test, which we also reproduce without changes and we invite all readers to answer it. In the final pages, we have only inserted a short note to update the information when this seemed necessary to us.

The original collection was called «Books for Tomorrow», and so this new version continues this name. If we can read what the book says without seeming too strange to us, this is because it would appear that this tomorrow is still not today. We hope that it is still not too late.
