This book does not claim to be a more or less complete catalogue of lullabies written in Spanish, nor does it include a recipe to stop the tears of babies who have trouble falling asleep; it is a collection of poems which allude to the intimate relationship between a mother and child at that sweet and at times terrible moment that separates day from night.

It is within that dialogue (the child speaks in its own way) that the joys and sorrows of the present day are made apparent, and the fears and hopes of the following day are invoked. The mysteries that lie hidden in the night and that dreams reveal are the materials with which illustrator Noemí Villamuza has worked.

Another characteristic which makes this Book of Lullabies different from others in the genre is that the poems and songs it includes are not always meant to put babies to sleep, some are meant to wake them up; others are addressed to people who have stopped being children; and there are even some lullabies meant to put a dog or a horse to sleep. We all need to sleep, don't we?
