A number is a wild animal that cannot stand being locked in a cage for a long time. We say that people are "rational" animals and although we are ashamed of our animality, we are very proud of this rational part. However, just as some suspected, the number is our most out-of-control animal part. We are all numbers and the number, like a disease, devours us from within.

This book by El Persa, who assumed his condition as a number a long time ago, is not a history of figures, or a philosophical essay, or mathematical entertainment, although in this small volume which fits inside a closed fist, nothing is discarded. Here, numbers freely express themselves, and they appear like characters in a literary work, willing to stage their life as tiger and butterfly right in front of our eyes. The result can be read like a novel which traps both children and grown-ups alike
