Gloria Fuertes always hoped to put together a collection of her anti-war poetry; the title was her idea, and has been around for a long time. Many readers who are only aware of her "children's" poetry are not familiar with her work for "grownups". Without a doubt, this book will surprise them, even though you can tell who she was writing for by the type of publication the poems are included in: the books for children are full of colourful images; while those for the not so old (sometimes including prologues by such prestigious poets as Jaime Gil de Biedma) do not usually include illustrations and have a more serious appearance. Sean Mackaoui's collages have the visual impact of a propaganda poster; they are in league with Gloria Fuertes' marvelously clear and round letters, and they draw out the most vehement antiwar scream.

"GARRA DE LA GUERRA" deals with the Civil War -uncivil war- the atom bomb, the horror, famine and, of course, with children, the favourite victims of any conflict.
